Governing Adaptation

چکیده
We consider an organization in which two activities need to be coordinated with each other (standardization), and yet also need to respond to local conditions (customization). Control of the activities can be allocated among two privately informed but biased local agents (employees) and an uninformed but unbiased central agent (manager). We analyze how the allocation of decisions rights within the organization a¤ects strategic communication among the participants and the decisions that the organization makes. By modeling the participants as strategic actors, we endogenize both the biases in equilibrium decisions, conditional on the information available to the decision-maker(s), and imperfections in the information itself, with communication between the local agents and the decision-maker(s) modeled as a cheap-talk game. The results provide a quali ed formalization of the common intuition that centralization of decision-making is needed when interdependencies between activities are high. The quali ers are: (i) the performance di¤erential between centralized and decentralized decision-making is non-monotone in the importance of coordination, (ii) both of these common structures are dominated by asymmetric structures in su¢ ciently asymmetric environments and (iii) incentive alignment provides a natural alternative to centralization. Numerical study of heat transfer in fluidized bed dryers by volume of fluid method
The purpose of this study is numerical modeling of temperature variation of phases in a two phase regime in fluidized bed dryers including particles belonging to Group D of geldart classification. The mass transfer between phases is not taken into consideration in this modeling which has been assumed in three- dimensional, unsteady, and two-phase regime. To verify the modeling we consider the do...
متن کاملGeneric Rules of Mechano-Regulation Combined with Subject Specific Loading Conditions Can Explain Bone Adaptation after THA
Bone adaptation after total hip arthroplasty is associated with the change in internal load environment, and can result in compromised bone stock, which presents a considerable challenge should a revision procedure be required. Under the assumption of a generic mechano-regulatory algorithm for governing bone adaptation, the aim of this study was to understand the contribution of subject specifi...
متن کاملEthical Analysis of the Principle of Honesty in the Koran and Narrations and its Adaptation to the Way of Socialization in the Cyberspace
The development of cyberspace and its dominance over contemporary human life posed numerous challenges to humans in terms of ethical, security, psychological and economic considerations. This has led some organizations, institutions, social activists and sympathetic scholars around the world to devise and disseminate several guidelines and ethical tenets to cyberspace users in order to prevent ...
متن کاملError estimation and adaptation for functional outputs in time-dependent flow problems
The paper presents an adjoint based approach for determining global error in the time domain that is relevant to functional outputs from unsteady flow simulations. The algorithm is derived for the unsteady Euler equations that are discretized for second-order accuracy in both space and time and takes into account the effect of dynamic meshes. In addition to error due to temporal resolution, the...
متن کاملAdaptation of Component Behaviour using Synchronous Vectors
Software Adaptation is a crucial issue for the development of a real market of components promoting software reuse. Recent work in this field has addressed several problems related to signature and behavioural mismatch. In this paper, we present our proposal for software adaptation. It builds on previous work overcoming some of its limitations, and makes a significant advance to solve pending i...
متن کاملDifferential changes in human perception of speed due to motion adaptation.
Visual systems adapt to the prevailing image conditions. This improves the ability to discriminate between two similar stimuli but has the side effect that veridical perception is degraded. For example, prolonged driving at 100 km/h may reduce the perceived speed to 80 km/h but improve the sensitivity to changes in the prevailing speed. Here we use radially expanding flow fields with a wide com...
